Lutz Man Charged With First-Degree Murder In Fatal Tampa Shooting

TAMPA, Fla. – A 24-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder following a fatal shooting that occurred last week near the intersection of Progress Boulevard and South 82nd Street in Tampa.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Dayjon Clarke on Monday, June 2, 2025, in connection with the death of Terrel Ferrell, 24.

The incident unfolded on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at approximately 4:19 p.m., when deputies responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Terrel Ferrell suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Ferrell was a passenger in a vehicle that also carried a female driver and a child in the backseat.

According to investigators, the driver had briefly stopped to speak with the suspect when the suspect opened fire. In a desperate attempt to escape the gunfire, the driver sped away, inadvertently striking a motorized bicyclist who sustained minor injuries. The vehicle then continued to a nearby Thorntons convenience store to seek help.

Ferrell was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Through their investigative efforts, detectives identified Dayjon Clarke as the shooter. On June 2, 2025, detectives successfully located Clarke at a residence on the 100 block of Logarto Circle West in Lutz and took him into custody.

Sheriff Chad Chronister condemned the violence, stating, “This violent act stole a young man’s life and put innocent lives in jeopardy —including a child. Let this serve as a message: if you commit a violent crime in our community, we will find you, and you will face justice.”

Clarke is currently facing the following charges:

  • Murder in the First Degree (Premeditated Firearm – Great Bodily Harm/Death)
  • Shooting at Within or Into a Vehicle
  • Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
