Political analyst Mark Halperin said Friday that journalists should cease asking Democrats three specific questions about the cover-up of former President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline and instead focus on one key question.
Halperin has contended that Biden’s decline was apparent based on both his public appearances and the lack thereof. Therefore, on “The Morning Meeting,” he said certain media questions were pointless and urged journalists to press Democrats on their silence in the face of clear mental decline.

“Here are three questions you should stop asking Democrats about the Biden acuity cover-up, okay? Don’t ask them, ‘Were you surprised by the debate?’ Because, as I’ve said, anyone who claims they weren’t surprised by the debate is lying, because he exhibited all those traits previously,” Halperin said. “Stop asking, ‘Should Biden have run for reelection?’ No! No one — no one — could possibly think he should have run for reelection. No one. Even if he’d won, some people would say no. But given what happened to the party, no one could think that.”
“And then three: ‘Did you see signs of his decline in private?’ Again, who cares? They were all on display in public. So it doesn’t matter if they want to admit they saw it in private or not,” he continued. “The question — the single question — they should be asked: ‘Given Joe Biden’s obvious mental decline in public, why did you not speak up?’ That’s the whole — that’s it. That’s the question.”
As evidence of Biden’s public decline, Halperin often points to a September 2022 event.
Biden publicly seemed to call on the late Republican Indiana Rep. Jackie Walorski to stand, appearing to forget that she perished in a car crash in August 2022.

Democratic Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet struggled to answer on Tuesday when Halperin pressed him on “Next up with Mark Halperin” regarding his awareness of Biden’s “mental decline.” When Halperin mentioned the Walorski example, along with Biden’s few press appearances, Bennet still did not acknowledge he felt Biden was mentally diminished, suggesting the former president may have just suffered from “physical” issues.
“He had once addressed a dead congresswoman at an event meant to honor her as if she were there. He was sequestered from the media, talked to the media far less often even in 2020, including 2024,” the political analyst said. “I don’t think you needed to see anything secret or private or that debate to see mental decline. Do you not agree with that?”
“Well, I think that, again, I have not made a personal assessment, you know, at that time, certainly, of Joe Biden’s mental decline,” Bennet responded. “I think he was not in a position to wage a vigorous campaign against Trump, whether it was mental or physical, and we paid a heavy price for his decision to run again.”
