HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Law enforcement agencies across Hillsborough County collaborated over the Memorial Day weekend in “Operation Remember the Fallen,” a targeted effort to remove impaired drivers from the roadways and enhance public safety during one of the year’s busiest travel periods.
The initiative, which ran from Friday, May 23, 2025, through Monday, May 26, 2025, saw increased DUI enforcement county-wide.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) partnered with the Tampa Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol, and Temple Terrace Police Department for the four-day operation.

Officers and deputies focused on deterring reckless driving and preventing potential tragedies by specifically targeting individuals driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Throughout the operation, HCSO reported significant enforcement activity. Deputies conducted 355 traffic stops, which resulted in 51 traffic citations and 295 warnings. Crucially, 29 individuals were arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI). An additional three arrests were made for other offenses.
“Impaired driving is one of the most preventable threats to public safety,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chronister. “When someone chooses to get behind the wheel after drinking or using drugs, they’re not just breaking the law — they’re gambling with people’s lives. Our deputies and law enforcement partners were out in full force because we take that threat seriously. We will continue to do everything we can to hold dangerous drivers accountable and protect the innocent people who share the road with them.”
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reiterated its commitment to continuous DUI enforcement and promoting roadway safety throughout the year, beyond holiday weekends.
