In a move hailed as a victory for American manufacturing, Mercedes-Benz today announced its decision to shift production of another vehicle to the United States. This development, slated for their Tuscaloosa, Alabama facility, underscores a growing trend of automakers increasing their U.S.-based operations, a phenomenon widely attributed to the policies of President Donald J. Trump.

This announcement from the German automotive giant follows earlier indications this year that Mercedes-Benz would be bolstering its investment in its American infrastructure.

The decision to onshore more production to Alabama is the latest in a series of moves by major car manufacturers, signaling a potential resurgence in domestic auto manufacturing.

The Trump administration is incentivizing companies to “make things in America,” and the recent actions of several key players in the automotive industry suggest this push is gaining traction.

Alongside Mercedes-Benz, other automakers are either actively shifting production or making significant investments in their U.S. presence:

BMW is reportedly considering adding shifts at its plant in South Carolina, potentially increasing output.

Honda has plans to relocate production of its popular Civic model from Japan to the United States.

Hyundai has announced a substantial $20 billion investment, which includes a significant $5.8 billion for a new steel plant in Louisiana. This investment aligns with their stated commitment to “further localize production in the U.S.” to support their vehicle manufacturing.

Kia, Hyundai’s affiliate, intends to produce hybrid vehicles at Hyundai’s existing factory in Georgia.

Nissan is also exploring the possibility of transferring some of its production from Mexico to the United States.

Stellantis has made a significant commitment to reopen its Belvidere, Illinois, plant, with plans to manufacture a new midsize pickup truck at the facility.

Toyota has announced its intention to increase the production of hybrid vehicles at its plant located in West Virginia.
