POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 54-year-old Lake Wales man is in custody after a methamphetamine-fueled rampage led to threats of violence and witness tampering. Billy Murphy was arrested Monday evening by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office following an incident at a Lake Wales residence.

Deputies responded to a call around 7:13 p.m. after reports that Murphy had become violent. According to the PCSO, Murphy’s behavior was attributed to his use of methamphetamine, a drug known to induce aggression in users.

During the altercation, Murphy allegedly threatened to strike one individual and stab another. When one of the victims attempted to dial 911 for help, deputies say Murphy grabbed the person, physically restraining them to prevent the call from being made.
