BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Drivers in Brooksville are now experiencing smoother commutes through the critical SR 50 (Cortez Boulevard) / SR 50A (W Jefferson Street) / Cobb Road intersection, as newly constructed lanes opened overnight.
The significant upgrade involved a complete pavement reconstruction, transforming the roadway from asphalt to a more durable concrete driving surface.

The immediate impact for motorists is full access to all movements through the intersection, including dedicated right- and left-turn lanes. Furthermore, traffic signal phases have been recalibrated and adjusted, contributing to a noticeable improvement in overall traffic flow.
While this marks a major milestone, construction efforts are ongoing. Crews continue to work within the intersection and southward towards US 41. Commuters can anticipate further relief by mid-July, weather permitting, when additional lanes are expected to open in both directions of SR 50, extending from south of the intersection to west of Buck Hope Road.

Future work includes concrete grinding operations within the intersection to ensure a smooth driving surface. Once this is complete, even more thru lanes and turn lanes will become available, further enhancing capacity and reducing congestion.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) reminds motorists to exercise caution while navigating the construction zone.
