A seemingly trivial dispute over overcooked biscuits at a Charlotte Popeyes escalated into a violent confrontation on Sunday, May 11th, leaving one employee hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and another facing attempted murder charges.

According to reports from WJZY-TV, officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon at the Popeyes restaurant located on South Boulevard. Upon arrival, they discovered a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services transported the injured man to a local hospital for treatment.

Details emerging from court records, as reported by WBTV-TV, paint a grim picture of the incident. A customer reportedly witnessed the altercation ignite inside the fast-food establishment between the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Rodney Wood, and the victim. The catalyst for the argument? “Burnt biscuits,” according to the witness account.

The disagreement allegedly spilled outside the restaurant, turning physical. It was then that the situation took a drastic turn. Authorities say Wood allegedly produced a firearm and shot the victim twice at close range. One bullet struck the man in the groin, while the second hit him in the chest.

Following the shooting, Wood reportedly fled the scene. However, police were able to locate and apprehend him in the vicinity. During questioning, Wood allegedly told officers that the victim had punched him in the face multiple times, prompting him to fire what he claimed were “warning shots.”

Adding another layer to the disturbing incident, both Wood and the victim held management positions at the Popeyes. WBTV further reports that the two men had a history of conflict, with Wood having previously requested a transfer to avoid working with the victim.

Rodney Wood has since been booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail and faces a charge of attempted first-degree murder. The investigation into this shocking incident remains ongoing.
