TAMPA, Fla. – Motorists planning to travel northbound on I-275 across the Howard Frankland Bridge Wednesday night will encounter a mandatory detour. The northbound lanes of the interstate leading to the bridge will be closed from 11 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, until 5 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, weather permitting.
The closure is required to allow crews to install overhead sign structures as part of the ongoing construction project for the new southbound I-275 bridge connecting Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.
During the closure, northbound I-275 traffic will be directed off the interstate at Gandy Boulevard (Exit 28). Electronic message boards and temporary signage will be in place to guide motorists along the designated detour route, which utilizes Roosevelt Boulevard, Gandy Boulevard, and Dale Mabry Highway.
Drivers are advised to allocate an additional 30 minutes of travel time if using the detour, as traffic congestion and delays are anticipated on these roadways.
While the main northbound I-275 lanes on the Howard Frankland Bridge will be closed, other nearby routes, including Roosevelt Boulevard, the Bayside Bridge, the Courtney Campbell Causeway, and Memorial Highway, will remain open and can serve as alternate routes for travelers.
