PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – The Pasco Sheriff’s Office (PSO) is alerting residents to a recent surge in fraudulent phone calls where scammers are impersonating law enforcement officials and falsely claiming individuals have outstanding warrants. The PSO emphasizes that these calls are designed to deceive and extract personal and financial information from unsuspecting victims.
The sheriff’s office wants to make it unequivocally clear that the Pasco Sheriff’s Office will never contact individuals via phone to discuss active warrants. Furthermore, they will never demand payment of any kind, including requests for payment through gift cards, to resolve or clear a warrant.
These deceptive tactics often involve aggressive and threatening language, pressuring individuals to provide sensitive information such as social security numbers, bank account details, or credit card numbers.
Scammers may also instruct victims to purchase prepaid gift cards and provide the codes over the phone.
Stay vigilant and remember: if it sounds suspicious, it likely is. Protect yourself and your loved ones by being aware of these warrant scam tactics.
