
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – The precautionary boil water notice issued for parts of Seffner and North Brandon following Hurricane Milton has been lifted.
Water quality tests have confirmed that the water in the affected area meets all safety standards. Approximately 4,000 water connections were impacted by the notice, which was issued on October 10th due to water main breaks and a drop in water pressure caused by the storm.
While the water is now safe to use, Hillsborough County Water Resources Department recommends flushing water lines for five minutes at each tap, including misters, drinking fountains, and ice makers (discarding the first batch of ice).

PREVIOUS REPORTING: Hillsborough County Water Resources has issued a precautionary boil water notice for approximately 4,000 customers in the Seffner/North Brandon area. This is a result of water main breaks caused by Hurricane Milton, which led to a drop in water pressure below the required regulatory level.
What to Do:
As a precaution, residents in the affected area should boil all tap water used for:
- Drinking
- Cooking
- Making ice
- Brushing teeth
- Washing dishes

Bring water to a rolling boil for one minute and allow it to cool before using. Bottled water can also be used as an alternative.
If you cannot boil water due to power outages:
Disinfect tap water by adding 8 drops of unscented household bleach (4-6% active ingredients) to each gallon of water. Mix well and let it stand for 30 minutes. Cloudy water requires 16 drops of bleach and a 30-minute contact time.
Important Notes:
- There is currently no indication of contamination. This notice is purely precautionary.
- Water quality testing will be conducted, and the notice will be rescinded once the water meets safety standards. This typically takes 48 hours.
- Residents will be notified when the notice is lifted.
