Riverview Traffic Stop: Drugs, Guns Found In Vehicle With 5 Children

RIVERVIEW, Fla. – Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies arrested three adults on Tuesday, April 29, following a traffic stop at the intersection of Riverview Drive and Moody Road that revealed the presence of illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, and two firearms in a vehicle occupied by eight people, including five children.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies initiated the stop for an unspecified traffic violation. Upon further investigation and a subsequent search of the vehicle, the contraband was discovered.

As a result of the findings, Herron Washington, 34, and Joseph Rider, 41, were taken into custody and face multiple drug-related charges. Shakemya Washington was arrested and charged with five counts of Child Neglect and Permitting an Unauthorized Operator to Drive.

“The combination of illegal drugs, firearms, and children in a vehicle is reprehensible,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our deputies ensured the children’s safety as they took the suspects into custody. These arrests emphasize our commitment to protecting the most vulnerable while removing dangerous elements from our streets.”

The five children present in the vehicle were unharmed and have been placed in the care of the Department of Children and Families. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
