A trip to a local convenience store turned into a multi-million-dollar win for one Ruskin resident. The Florida Lottery announced today that Joel Miranda Roman, 42, of Ruskin, has claimed a $2 million top prize from the $2,000,000 100X CASHWORD Scratch-Off game.
Roman collected his winnings at the Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee. He elected to receive his prize as a one-time, lump-sum payment, amounting to a substantial $1,280,000.00.

The winning ticket that changed Roman’s fortune was purchased at the Sunoco Food Mart, conveniently located at 1202 N. Tamiami Trail in his hometown of Ruskin. The retailer also gets to share in the excitement, receiving a $4,000 bonus commission from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
The $2,000,000 100X CASHWORD game, priced at $10 per ticket, is a popular choice among Florida Lottery players. It boasts over $220 million in total cash prizes, including eight lucrative $2 million top prizes like the one Roman secured. The overall odds of winning any prize in this game are stated as 1-in-3.37.
Florida Lottery officials highlighted the significance of Scratch-Off games to their overall portfolio. In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, Scratch-Offs constituted approximately 74 percent of total ticket sales.
