HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers have located the vehicle believed to be involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a Brooksville pedestrian earlier this week. The driver, however, remains unidentified and at large.
The incident occurred around 4:20 AM on Tuesday, April 15th, at the intersection of Wiscon Road and California Street in Hernando County. As the Tampa Free Press reported, a 45-year-old man from Brooksville was walking northbound across Wiscon Road when he entered the path of a westbound vehicle, initially described as an early model Dodge Durango of unknown color.

The vehicle struck the pedestrian, who suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Durango did not stop and fled the scene westbound on Wiscon Road.
Following the initial alert, FHP troopers received information leading them to the suspect vehicle. On Wednesday, April 16th, troopers found a white Dodge Durango, matching the description of the vehicle involved, parked and unoccupied at a McDonald’s restaurant located on Cortez Boulevard.
While the recovery of the vehicle marks a significant development in the case, the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to identify and locate the individual driving the Durango at the time of the fatal crash.
