TAMPA, Fla. – Commuters in Tampa should be aware of a significant road closure beginning this morning. All lanes on North 15th Street between East Chelsea Street and East Genesee Street will be closed starting at 9 a.m. today, Friday, May 9, 2025.
The closure is necessary for the Tampa Water Department to conduct essential maintenance on the city’s water distribution system in the area.

Crews will have barricades and signage in place to guide drivers and manage traffic flow. Motorists are strongly advised to seek alternate routes and exercise increased caution when navigating the vicinity of the work zone. Officials also note that modifications to the lane closures may be implemented as the maintenance work progresses.
The Tampa Water Department anticipates that the work will be completed, and normal traffic patterns will resume by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14. However, all work schedules are dependent on favorable weather conditions.
