SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. – An 18-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Sun City Center in November of last year, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday.

Malachi Higgs, 18, was taken into custody without incident on May 23, 2025, following an extensive investigation into the death of Brandon Clark, also 18.

Deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the 7200 block of Camp Island Avenue on the night of November 10, 2024, at approximately 10:43 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Clark deceased from a gunshot wound.

HCSO detectives identified Higgs as the suspect responsible for Clark’s death. He now faces multiple charges, including Murder in the First Degree While Engaged in Robbery, Robbery with a Firearm or Deadly Weapon (less than $750), Carrying a Concealed Firearm, and Minor in Possession of a Firearm.

“This arrest is the result of the tireless work by our detectives and a commitment to seeking justice,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “While nothing can undo the loss suffered by this young man’s family, we hope this development brings a measure of closure.”
