In a candid interview on CBS News’ “Eye on Politics,” Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) offered a robust defense of President Joe Biden amidst ongoing concerns about his cognitive health. Crockett not only vouched for the President’s capabilities but also made a striking admission: she would still favor a “mentally deficient” Joe Biden over Donald Trump.
Asked by CBS’s Jack Fink to address Republican allegations that Democrats and the White House have been disingenuous about President Biden’s mental and physical state, Crockett opted for a strategic pivot rather than an outright denial.
She attributed the prevalence of these concerns to effective Republican messaging, suggesting that Democrats have struggled to control the narrative.

“I think we did hurt ourselves,” Crockett stated, clarifying, “I don’t think it’s for the reasons that you’re laying out, but I do think we hurt ourselves because what Democrats tend to do is the Republicans know how to create an ecosystem of commentary, whether it’s true or not.”
The Texas Democrat then shared her personal experiences with President Biden, asserting that she has never witnessed signs of cognitive decline in their multiple interactions. “I literally have had conversations with him not once, not twice, um, probably not even three times. Multiple times. And I never ever, ever felt like I saw anything that was decline,” she affirmed.
However, Crockett quickly introduced a significant caveat, acknowledging the potential for age-related changes. “Does that mean that you’re not qualified, or does it mean that it is so detrimental that it’s causing harm? Absolutely not.” She conceded that aging could bring “a level of kind of fall off,” but maintained that Biden remains highly capable, particularly in foreign affairs. “Joe Biden, anybody know anything about him, they know foreign affairs is like his wheelhouse. And he was so on point,” she added.

Crockett further bolstered her defense by claiming that global leaders hold President Biden in high regard, in stark contrast to their reported negative reactions to President Donald Trump. “They go off about Trump,” she remarked.
The most notable moment of the interview came when Crockett addressed the hypothetical scenario of Biden’s mental health being genuinely compromised.
Her response: “So let me tell you, if Joe Biden was like mentally, um, deficient in some way and he was still able to keep this sucker on the tracks, then give me a mentally deficient Joe Biden any given day over Donald Trump.”
