Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) publicly committed to launching an impeachment inquiry into former President Donald Trump if she secures the coveted chair position of the powerful House Oversight Committee.
Crockett, who’s currently vying to become the committee’s ranking member on June 24th, would automatically become chair if Democrats seize control of the House in the 2026 midterm elections. And she’s making her intentions crystal clear.

“I would absolutely at least do an inquiry. Absolutely. I mean, I think that there’s more than enough to inquire about,” Crockett declared on “Inside Texas Politics.” She rattled off a list of potential targets for investigation, including Elon Musk’s dealings with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Trump’s alleged pressure on institutions like Harvard, and his past interactions with law firms.
Crockett pointed to inspector generals investigating Musk being fired and alleged pressure on companies like Verizon regarding diversity initiatives. She also accused Trump of trying to “pull back resources from the likes of Harvard” for daring to defy him and “shaking down so many of these law firms for free legal fees.” Her take? “History needs to know the truth.”
Crockett’s Rise and Trump’s Attack
Crockett’s stance comes as her profile skyrockets. She believes Trump’s public jabs, calling her a “low-IQ person,” are actually a sign of her growing influence.
“I think that he is listening to the polling,” Crockett told former CNN host Jim Acosta, citing instances of Republicans privately expressing admiration for her “fighting for the people.”
She’s actively campaigning among her Democratic colleagues for the Oversight Committee leadership, and recently told MSNBC she’s confident Democrats will retake the House.
If they do, she’s ready to unleash the committee’s power to investigate Trump’s “crypto acquisitions,” potential Emoluments Clause violations, and other business dealings.

Fiery Rhetoric and Controversy
However, Crockett’s ascent hasn’t been without controversy. She’s known for what some describe as “racially-charged rants” and “incendiary anti-Republican rhetoric.”
She’s publicly labeled Republicans as “inherently violent” and associated them with white supremacist groups like the Proud Boys, neo-Nazis, and the KKK.
This aggressive rhetoric has drawn criticism, with some pointing to violence associated with other movements, such as the George Floyd protests in 2020 and an Antifa attack on journalist Andy Ngo.

Despite the controversy, Crockett’s outspokenness and ambition to lead a key investigative committee signal her growing power within the Democratic Party.
As the midterm elections loom, her clashes with President Donald Trump and her strong criticisms of Republicans are set to continue shaping the political battlefield.
