Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett has sparked discussion after her response to a question during an interview about the Democratic Party’s 2026 midterm playbook focused heavily on “communication and education” rather than specific policy initiatives.
During an interview on Wednesday, FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth reporter Steven Dial pressed Crockett on the Democratic strategy for the upcoming midterms, asking if the party would prioritize denouncing President Donald Trump or addressing “kitchen table issues.”
“You act like I got the playbook,” Crockett quipped initially. When asked for her personal belief on the winning strategy, she elaborated, “The winning playbook, I think overall, is just communication and education. I think that you can talk about kitchen table issues all you want to, but it comes down to actually having a rapport and making sure that people actually understand what it is that you’re talking about.”

Crockett contended that Democrats have not failed to discuss everyday concerns but that Trump’s messaging was simpler, albeit often misleading. She cited Trump’s promise to reduce egg prices, which she acknowledged are now decreasing after a previous surge. She then used the example of egg prices to underscore her point about the need for voter education.
“Having people be educated about what it is that the FDA does and talking about things such as the bird flu and talking about if you have less birds because they are sick, then that’s less eggs,” Crockett explained. “But the demand is still the same, then the price goes up. Like, we have to make sure we do education.”
She further asserted that voters failed to grasp the root causes of inflation, attributing it solely to the current administration rather than the global pandemic. Crockett also claimed that voters did not understand the true impact of Trump’s tariffs, believing foreign countries would bear the cost.

“I think that our win is in the education,” Crockett reiterated, emphasizing her commitment to initiatives like teletown halls and direct dialogues with constituents to simplify complex issues. “I think our win is in our education and our constant communication.”
Crockett’s comments align with a broader sentiment among some Democrats, including Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Ken Martin, who have suggested that the party’s challenges stem more from a “messaging” problem than from their policy positions.
This interview follows a March statement from Crockett to “Lone Star Politics,” where she admitted her primary focus was opposing President Donald Trump rather than legislative efforts. Her current emphasis on education and communication for the 2026 midterms suggests a strategic shift toward informing voters about the intricacies of policy and economic factors.
