“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg launched a blistering critique of the Trump administration’s immigration policies on Monday, labeling the arrest and deportation of undocumented immigrants as “pure fascism.” The comments came amidst a heated discussion on recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and the administration’s hardline stance on immigration.

Goldberg argued passionately that individuals who have overstayed their visas or entered the country unlawfully for a chance at a better life should not be forcibly removed. “People don’t just leave everything they know to come here,” she stated, emphasizing the desperation that often fuels such journeys.

“So, what is it?” Goldberg questioned her audience. “Is this just pure fascism that’s happening? Is this what’s going on?”

Her sentiment was echoed by co-host Sunny Hostin, a lawyer, who added, “Well, there’s indications of fascism.”

Goldberg’s remarks follow a series of large-scale ICE operations, including significant raids across Los Angeles that have reportedly led to widespread protests and civil unrest, with rioters allegedly burning cars and using Molotov cocktails. These raids resulted in the arrest of at least 44 individuals, whom the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) described as the “worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens.” According to DHS, the arrested foreign nationals had prior convictions for serious crimes, including second-degree murder, assault with intent to commit rape, and grand theft larceny.

The debate also touched on the case of Mohamed Sabry Soliman, an Egyptian national who overstayed his visa and is accused of attacking a pro-Israel demonstration in Boulder, Colorado, with a makeshift flamethrower.

Despite the controversy, the administration shows no signs of backing down. Border Czar Tom Homan affirmed that immigration enforcement operations would persist nationwide. “No government official is above the law,” Homan stated, pushing back against any suggestion that officials attempting to obstruct ICE would be immune from consequences.

Goldberg acknowledged the desire to remove dangerous individuals but urged for a more compassionate perspective. “That doesn’t sound like America to me. That’s not the America I know,” she lamented. “Yeah, we want to get rid of the bad people. Everybody wants that. But we all have to recognize that some people got here in the strangest, craziest ways, but they’re here for a reason.”
