LAKELAND, Fla. – A 45-year-old Lakeland man with an extensive criminal history, James William Wells, was taken into custody by Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Friday, following a tip regarding his whereabouts. Wells was wanted on multiple felony charges and for violating his probation.
Authorities had been searching for Wells, who was facing charges including Felony Battery (with prior convictions), Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Assault with a Weapon without Intent to Kill, and Tampering With a Victim.
He was also in violation of his probation, which stemmed from previous charges of possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received credible information placing Wells in the area of Minnehaha Avenue South and Highland Street West in Lakeland. Deputies responded to the tip and the location.
Deputies located James Wells walking in the area and were able to apprehend him without incident.
Wells’ criminal record also includes prior offenses for grand theft of a motor vehicle and petit theft, in addition to the drug offenses for which he was on probation.
