Traffic Stop In Winter Haven Leads To Arrest Of Man Wanted On Illinois Aggravated DUI Warrant

POLK COUNTY, Fla.– A routine traffic stop in Winter Haven on Friday evening resulted in the arrest of a 39-year-old man found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Cook County, Illinois.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), deputies spoke with Juan Moctezuma Gonzalez on the evening of Friday, May 9th, during a traffic stop conducted at Avenue J NW and 37th Street NW in Winter Haven.

During the stop, deputies discovered that Gonzalez had an active warrant issued by authorities in Cook County, Illinois—the warrant listed charges of aggravated DUI and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Gonzalez was arrested by PCSO deputies without incident and transported to the Polk County Jail.

Following his arrest, Gonzalez reportedly told deputies that he had previously entered the United States illegally, was deported in 2015, and had returned to the U.S. approximately four years ago.

Gonzalez is now awaiting extradition proceedings to be returned to Cook County, Illinois, to face the charges outlined in the warrant.

Information on an ICE detainer was not available.
