President Donald Trump has launched a scathing critique against recent polls indicating widespread dissatisfaction with his economic policies during his second term. The president’s response comes as several surveys, including those from NPR/PBS News/Marist and Reuters/Ipsos, reveal a significant portion of Americans disapprove of his handling of the economy.
A Marist Poll published Tuesday showed only 39% of Americans approve of Trump’s economic stewardship, while 55% disapprove. Similarly, a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on April 23 found a mere 37% approval rating. These figures have fueled concerns about the president’s economic agenda and its impact on public sentiment.

In a Monday post on Truth Social, President Trump directly attacked pollsters from ABC/The Washington Post, The New York Times, and Fox News, accusing them of “election fraud.” He alleged that these organizations are deliberately manipulating polls to produce negative results.
“Great Pollster John McLaughlin, one of the most highly respected in the industry, has just stated that The Failing New York Times Poll, and the ABC/Washington Post Poll, about a person named DONALD J. TRUMP, ME, are FAKE POLLS FROM FAKE NEWS ORGANIZATIONS,” Trump wrote.
“These people should be investigated for ELECTION FRAUD,” Trump wrote. “They are Negative Criminals who apologize to their subscribers and readers after I WIN ELECTIONS BIG, much bigger than their polls showed I would win, loose a lot of credibility, and then go on cheating and lying for the next cycle, only worse.”
Despite the negative poll results, the Trump administration has pointed to economic successes.
The U.S. added 228,000 jobs in March, exceeding economists’ projections, and inflation saw a slight decrease in the same month. President Trump has also emphasized his efforts to reshape the U.S. trade sector, including the implementation of new tariffs in April, which have caused ripples in global markets.
However, broader approval ratings for the president have also declined. A Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll released on April 27 indicated that 39% of adult Americans approve of Trump’s overall job performance, while 55% disapprove.
Throughout his campaign, Trump pledged to bolster the U.S. economy and “make America affordable again,” acknowledging the economy’s critical importance to voters in the 2024 election.
Poll Methodology:
- The Marist Poll, conducted from April 21-23, surveyed 1,439 U.S. adults with a margin of error of ± 3.3 percentage points.
- The Reuters/Ipsos poll, conducted from April 16-21, surveyed 4,306 U.S. adults with a margin of error of approximately ± 2 percentage points.
- The Washington Post-ABC-Ipsos poll, conducted from April 18-22, surveyed 2,464 U.S. adults with a margin of error of ± 2 percentage points.
