U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Wednesday lauded Elon Musk and an investigative team DOGE for their efforts in uncovering what he described as significant waste, fraud, and abuse across multiple federal government sectors. The Speaker signaled the House’s intent to act decisively on these findings.

Johnson highlighted specific revelations attributed to DOGE, including the exposure of questionable expenditures by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Perhaps more startling was the reported discovery of over 12 million Social Security recipients listed as being over 120 years old, raising serious concerns about program integrity.

“The House is eager and ready to act on DOGE’s findings,” Johnson said. “These revelations underscore the urgent need to streamline government spending and eliminate inefficiencies to fulfill President Trump’s fiscal goals and the expectations of the American people.”

In response to these findings, Johnson outlined two primary legislative actions the House plans to undertake. Firstly, the chamber will move for rapid consideration and passage of an upcoming rescissions package from the White House, which is expected to codify budget cuts identified through DOGE’s investigations. Secondly, the House will work towards the swift implementation of President Trump’s proposed 2026 budget through the established appropriations process.

Johnson also noted that the House has already taken proactive steps towards fiscal consolidation. He mentioned the incorporation of significant savings into a budgetary initiative dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which targets both discretionary and mandatory spending.

Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller elaborated on the synergy between these efforts.

He clarified that while DOGE’s investigation pinpointed inefficiencies within discretionary spending, the House’s broader “One Big Beautiful Bill” has already secured historic savings exceeding $1.6 trillion in mandatory spending areas, including programs like Medicaid.

“Both initiatives represent monumental steps forward in addressing America’s growing debt and deficit challenges,” Johnson added. “We’re committed to fiscal responsibility and delivering substantial savings for the American taxpayer.”
