The United States conducted airstrikes on Yemen’s Ras Isa oil port, which the Houthis control, to disrupt their primary source of revenue and support from Iran. The strikes reportedly caused many casualties, according to a report from the Associated Press..

The Houthi movement maintains military and economic benefits from illegal fuel shipments through ports, including Ras Isa, despite their designation as a foreign terrorist organization by the United States government. The Houthis reportedly use fuel meant for Yemeni citizens to support their military operations and control efforts while generating illegal profits, which finance their regional activities.

US forces confirm that ships keep shipping fuel through Ras Isa Port even though the Foreign Terrorist Designation took effect on April 5th. The proceeds from these transactions support and maintain Houthi “terrorist activities” that have persisted for more than ten years.

The US strikes targeted the Houthis’ economic power base, which they accuse of exploiting Yemeni citizens and causing widespread suffering. A statement from US Central Command (CENTCOM) declared that the operation aimed to avoid harming Yemeni citizens who seek liberation from Houthi control and wish to live peacefully.

Officials from the Houthi group reported that the US airstrikes at the oil port caused many deaths. They reported 74 deaths and 171 injuries from what they labeled as the deadliest attack yet during the US military operation against the rebels.

The United States delivered a clear warning that global powers will not tolerate illegal transportation of fuel and military supplies to terrorist groups while placing the Houthis, Iran and their supporters “on notice.”

The attack on Ras Isa port represents intensified international actions against Houthi financial and logistical support networks while drawing attention to continuous global worries about their activities and effects on Yemeni regional stability and humanitarian conditions.
