Victor Davis Hanson: ‘Biggest Question’ About Biden’s Border Policies Remains Unanswered

Victor Davis Hanson said on Fox News Tuesday that President Biden’s border agenda was so irrational and destructive that, even now, no one can explain why he pursued it.

A 12-year-old migrant boy, previously let off easy after a brutal subway mugging, is now accused of leading a migrant gang that assaulted NYPD officers in Times Square and carried out a string of Central Park robberies. During an appearance on “Hannity,” Hanson said Biden didn’t just fail to secure the southern border, he dismantled the very idea of it.

“The biggest question, Sean, is it was so egregious, so surreal, that nobody knows why Biden did it. Was it to get new voters through early voting and mail-in voting? Was it to get a welfare constituency and rule government?” Hanson asked about Biden’s intention on opening the border. “Was it just sheer nihilism to punish half the country? Did he not believe in borders? It was so bizarre that no one can even figure out [why] anybody would want to do such damage to their own country. It’s gonna take two generations to solve this problem, and he left it. It’s the worst thing anybody’s ever done in that White House.”

Hanson argued that Biden’s immigration policies weren’t just reckless, they were deliberately destructive.

“I think historians are gonna look back and see this as the worst thing that any president has done in the last 50 years. It was a deliberate effort to destroy the border and allow 12 million people to come in. The first thing they did was break the law when they crossed it,” Hanson said. “The second thing they did was reside here illegally, and then they enjoyed preferential treatment.”

Hanson pointed to the two-tiered treatment illegal immigrants received under the Biden administration and said they often avoided vaccine mandates and real ID requirements that applied to American citizens.

“They didn’t have to have a real ID to get on a plane in some cases. They didn’t have to have a COVID vaccination, and that inculcated a sense of entitlement, and they had no fear but actually contempt for law enforcement,” Hanson said.

In its first 100 days, the Trump administration said it had sweeping success on immigration enforcement, both at the border and in the interior. A White House report, shared with the Daily Caller News Foundation, said daily border encounters dropped by 93%, and illegal crossings fell by nearly 100%.

During that time, authorities detained over 151,000 illegal immigrants and deported more than 135,000, including gang members from MS-13 and Tren de Aragua. The administration also scrapped the Biden-era CBP One app, which had allowed migrants to flood the asylum system by requesting appointments online — a system used more than 160 million times over two years.
