A Virginia man, Donte Rodrick Mondy, also known as “Tae,” 37, was sentenced today to eight years and one month in federal prison for multiple felony charges related to drug trafficking and the illegal possession of a firearm. U.S. District Judge Arenda Wright Allen handed down the sentence.

According to court documents, an investigation by the Chesapeake Police Department (CPD) revealed that Mondy engaged in four controlled sales of narcotics and firearms between July 25, 2023, and August 7, 2023. During these transactions, Mondy sold a total of 2.9 grams of fentanyl and xylazine, 6.1 grams of fentanyl, 4.49 grams of fentanyl and xylazine, and 8.07 grams of a mixture containing parafluorofentanyl, cocaine, and xylazine.

The investigation culminated on August 29, 2023, when investigators from CPD, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Norfolk Police Department executed search warrants at locations associated with Mondy, including his residence in Norfolk. Mondy was apprehended as he left his home.

A search of Mondy and a satchel he was carrying at the time of his arrest yielded a loaded handgun, a cellphone, 81 capsules containing a mix of parafluorofentanyl, cocaine, fentanyl, and xylazine, 104 counterfeit oxycodone tablets containing fentanyl, 0.96 grams of cocaine, and 3.33 grams of para-fluorofentanyl, cocaine, and xylazine.

A subsequent search of Mondy’s Norfolk residence uncovered further evidence indicative of drug distribution, including 1.3 grams of methamphetamine, a sifter, a digital scale, another handgun, a loaded magazine, and six bags of marijuana.

Court records also revealed Mondy has a prior felony conviction for possession of cocaine, as well as a third offense conviction for assault and battery of a family member. As a convicted felon, Mondy is legally prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
