Dr. Kevin O’Connor, former President Joe Biden’s long-time physician, has been subpoenaed by the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The subpoena, issued by Chairman James Comer (R-KY), demands O’Connor appear for a deposition on June 27 as part of a broader investigation into the 46th president’s physical and mental fitness, particularly focusing on alleged “cognitive decline.”
The date of the deposition, June 27, holds a notable irony. It marks exactly one year since Biden’s sole debate with Donald Trump, a performance that many observers believe contributed to his eventual withdrawal from the presidential campaign on July 21.

Chairman Comer’s move to subpoena O’Connor comes after repeated attempts to secure his voluntary cooperation failed. Comer stated that he had previously “requested” O’Connor to appear for a transcribed interview, but the physician refused. The Biden White House reportedly blocked a similar request made during the last Congress.
In his letter to Dr. O’Connor, Comer highlighted a February 2024 assessment by the physician, made months before Biden’s debate performance and subsequent campaign withdrawal. In that assessment, O’Connor had described Biden as “a healthy, active, robust 81-year-old male, who remains fit to successfully execute the duties of the presidency.” The committee now seeks to understand how this assessment aligns with later events and concerns.
Beyond the medical evaluation, Comer also indicated that the committee is interested in exploring O’Connor’s “financial relationship with the Biden family” and whether it may have influenced his assessment of the former president’s fitness to serve. “Given your connections with the Biden family,” Comer wrote, “the committee sought to understand if you contributed to an effort to hide former President Biden’s fitness to serve from the American people. You refused the committee’s request. However, to advance the committee’s oversight and legislative responsibilities and interests, your testimony is critical.”

The subpoena to O’Connor is part of a wider investigative push by the House Oversight Committee. Chairman Comer has also sent letters to five former senior Biden White House aides, “demanding they appear for transcribed interviews.” These interviews aim to gather information on the “potentially unauthorized issuance of sweeping pardons and other executive action.”
These congressional investigations are unfolding in parallel with a directive from current President Donald Trump. President Trump recently issued an order instructing his counsel, the attorney general, and heads of relevant executive agencies to investigate “whether certain individuals conspired to deceive the public about Biden’s mental state.” Trump’s order also seeks to determine if an autopen was used to carry out executive actions, including executive orders, clemency grants, pardons, and presidential memoranda, and who authorized the use of such a signature.

The ongoing investigations have reignited debate about the validity of past executive actions and pardons, with both Trump and Comer calling for transparency. Comer has asserted that the “cover-up” of Biden’s mental decline is a significant historical scandal.
“The American people deserve full transparency and the House Oversight Committee is conducting a thorough investigation to provide answers and accountability,” Comer stated. “The cover-up of President Biden’s mental decline is one of the greatest scandals in our nation’s history. These five former senior advisors were eyewitnesses to President Biden’s condition and operations within the Biden White House. They must appear before the House Oversight Committee and provide truthful answers about President Biden’s cognitive state and who was calling the shots.”
Fueling some of these inquiries is the book “Original Sin” by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, which Comer quoted as claiming, “Five people were running the country, and Joe Biden was at best a senior member of the board.”

Further revelations may emerge with the upcoming fall release of “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines,” by former Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who reportedly identifies as an independent and whose book is expected to cover the period leading up to Biden’s withdrawal from the reelection race.
