Wimauma Man Killed, 2 From Plant City Injured In Friday Head-On Crash

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A 44-year-old man from Wimauma died Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision on State Road 674 west of Carlton Branch Drive, according to a report released by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 2:52 PM on May 16, 2025, a GMC Envoy driven by the Wimauma man was traveling eastbound on SR-674. At the same time, a GMC Yukon, operated by a 58-year-old woman from Plant City, was heading westbound on the same road.

According to the FHP report, the driver of the GMC Envoy failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. As a result, the vehicle entered the westbound lane and collided nearly head-on with the GMC Yukon.

The 44-year-old Wimauma man driving the Envoy sustained fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Yukon, the 58-year-old Plant City woman, suffered minor injuries. An 81-year-old Plant City woman who was a passenger in the Yukon also sustained minor injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
