PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – A routine child custody exchange at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Administration Building today erupted in violence when a 28-year-old woman allegedly shot her biological father in the back.

Gabriella Nascimento has been arrested and charged with Attempted Murder in the First Degree following the shocking incident.

The victim, identified as Rogerio Nascimento of Valrico, is reportedly in critical but stable condition at a local hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The drama unfolded around 9:04 a.m. on Sunday as Rogerio Nascimento and his estranged wife arrived at the sheriff’s building on Ulmerton Road for a scheduled child custody exchange. Nascimento was accompanied by his sister, while his estranged wife had their four minor children and a friend.

According to detectives, Rogerio, his sister, and his estranged wife were talking in the parking lot outside their vehicles. Three of the four children present were said to be reluctant to leave the vehicle.

It was then that Gabriella Nascimento, Rogerio’s adult daughter, arrived separately. She reportedly joined the ongoing conversation in the parking lot. Detectives state that shortly after her arrival, Gabriella approached her father, produced a semi-automatic firearm, and shot him in the back.

Rogerio Nascimento immediately fled towards the front lobby of the Sheriff’s Administration Building, with Gabriella allegedly pursuing him on foot and firing a second shot that missed. Rogerio successfully made it into the lobby and sought help. Gabriella then reportedly fell on the sidewalk, placed the firearm on the ground, and remained there until deputies arrived and took her into custody without further incident.

Gabriella Nascimento is currently being held at the Pinellas County Jail. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
