ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A 10th-grade student at Gibbs High School was charged with having a gun on campus.
“Thanks to a tip, the handgun was found in the 16-year-old boy’s backpack,” said the St. Petersburg Police Department.
Police say the student did not make any threats against the school or anyone else. The student will have consequences at the school level and is charged with possession of a firearm on school property.
“The St. Petersburg Police Department prioritizes student safety, thoroughly investigating any weapon on campus or other threat to school safety. This serves as a reminder to students that the police department takes these matters very seriously, and the consequences could be severe,” said SPPD.
