19-Year-Old Woman Killed In Lakeland Crash Friday

LAKELAND, FL. – On Friday, at approximately 6:27 p.m., officers responded to a traffic crash near the 1600 block of East Memorial Boulevard and Interlachen Parkway.

Just prior to the crash, a Chevrolet Cobalt sedan was traveling westbound on East Memorial Boulevard. As the driver was attempting to negotiate the left curve of the roadway, they lost control of the vehicle.

Police say the vehicle began to slide on the road and crossed into the path of a Ford F-150 truck that was traveling eastbound on East Memorial Boulevard. The truck impacted the passenger side of the sedan, causing severe damage to the vehicle.

The Lakeland Police Department Patrol Unit, Polk County Fire Rescue, and the Lakeland Fire Department all arrived on the scene and began to provide life-saving measures.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 19-year-old Quianna Mongol, was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel. The driver of the truck, 46-year-old Joseph Alberts II, was transported to Lakeland Regional Health with serious injuries.

Members of the Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation. The roadway was shut down for approximately four hours while the scene was processed for any follow-up investigation.

Police say that weather conditions appear to be a factor in the crash. At this time, the investigation is ongoing.
