70-Year-Old Dunnellon Man Killed in Crash Wednesday

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – A 70-year-old Dunnellon man was killed in a crash that happened around 4:20 PM on Wednesday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the man was traveling southbound on US-19 in the left turn lane approaching the intersection of West Dunnellon
Road.

Troopers say the man turned left into the path of a car at the intersection and the two collided.

The man was transported to an area hospital, but the man later diedfrom injuries suffered during the crash.

A driver and passenger in the second vehicle, sustained serious injuries. Two-men, 56 and 57, both from Inglis. Their condition is unknown at this time.

While conducting this fatal crash investigation, FHP Troopers spotted a Ford F-150 traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of US-19 and approaching the crash scene. 

Troopers were able to flag down the motorist, detect impairment, and arrest the driver for DUI.  Joseph Francis Lux of Crystal River, 70, was later delivered to the Citrus County Jail where he refused a breath test.
