SUMTER COUNTY, FL. – A 78-year-old man from The Villages has died after crashing his golf cart into a light fixture and business sign.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 8:40 am Friday.

Troopers ay the golf cart was traveling southbound on the golf cart path that parallels Buena Vista Boulevard, along the west shoulder, south of Bailey Trail.

FHP says the man failed to negotiate a slight right curve and traveled onto the east shoulder of the path, crossed over the entrance drive for the Sea Breeze Recreation Center located at 2384 Buena Vista Boulevard, continued on the east shoulder of the path before colliding with a ground light fixture and a large business sign.

The man was transported to a local hospital, but later died from injuries suffered in the crash.
