First-time unemployment claims in Florida fell slightly last week, remaining at a pace relatively unchanged for 18 months.
The U.S. Department of Labor on Thursday released a report estimating that 5,677 new unemployment claims were filed in Florida during the week that ended Feb. 11, down from a revised count of 6,434 during the week that ended Feb. 4. Florida has averaged 6,325 claims a week since the start of August 2021.
Meanwhile, an estimated 194,000 claims were filed nationally last week, down 1,000 from the prior week and the fifth consecutive week below 200,000.

Florida had a 2.5 percent jobless rate in December, with an estimated 271,000 people qualified as unemployed from a workforce of 10.76 million. The state will release a January unemployment report on March 13.
