As California Gov. Newsom Imposes New COVID Crackdowns, A Restaurant Owner Fights Back On Restrictions

California’s Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday mandated that all state employees and healthcare workers either get vaccinated or undergo regular COVID-19 testing.

“We are now dealing with a pandemic of the unvaccinated, and it’s going to take renewed efforts to protect Californians from the dangerous Delta variant,” Newsom, who once violated his own lockdown rules to attend a birthday bash at a swanky San Franciso restaurant, said in a prepared statement.

“As the state’s largest employer, we are leading by example and requiring all state and health care workers to show proof of vaccination or be tested regularly, and we are encouraging local governments and businesses to do the same. Vaccines are safe – they protect our family, those who truly can’t get vaccinated, our children, and our economy. Vaccines are the way we end this pandemic.”

Tony Roman, the owner of Basilico’s Pasta e Vino, an Italian restaurant in Huntington Beach, California, has replied with the equivalent of a one-fingered salute.

On Monday, local media in Los Angeles noted that Roman had posted a sign on his eatery’s front door: “Notice: Proof of being Unvaccinated,” it said. “We have zero tolerance for treasonous, anti-American stupidity. Thank you for pondering.”

The LA Times published a story about the restaurant that prompted the expected reaction in a liberal enclave.

But on Facebook, Basilico’s fired back:

“Los Angeles Times prints an article about us, and again here come the haters, and with it, the harassing nonstop phone calls, threats, and hundreds of one-star reviews,” the post stated. “And guess what? We at Basilico’s Pasta e Vino wear it all as a badge of honor!”

“Attention: tiny tyrants, wannabe little dictators, pro-lockdown/pro-mask/pro-mandatory vaccine mini-Gestapo American traitors and snitches, and yes especially ‘Gavin Pelosi’ and ‘Stronzo Fauci’ … We feel blessed to go into battle against all of you in defense of American liberty and freedom, so bring it on!”

The Times also reported that Basilico’s, in an earlier Instagram post, had argued, ‘Imagine if Americans would have refused mask mandates, or better even banned the masks like we have throughout the lockdowns. The tiny tyrants then would have never dared to think they could try and force vaccine mandates.”

Moreover, when a Times photographer asked to take pictures inside Basilico’s, an employee refused and instead set up “wanted” posters for “treason” and “crimes against humanity” for Dr. Anthony Fauci, Newsom, and the county Board of Supervisors. The reward for bringing in the villains, according to the poster: “Pasta, Vino & Liberty.”

The Times further noted that the restaurant has been fined $152,000 in fines for COVID-related violations.

Roman, the owner, said on social media that he’s not appealing, and not paying. He refuses to pay monetary tribute to the “American traitors at OSHA.”
