Biden Rolling Thunder DC AMvets

Biden Admin – For Now – Has Silenced The Rolling Thunder Rally To Remember Vets

The Fauci-istas inside the Defense Department may disrupt one of Washington’s longest-standing Memorial Day traditions.

Every year since 1988, until COVID struck last year, thousands of veterans world descend on Washington on motorcycles at the end of May for the annual Rolling Thunder rally. The event, hosted by American Veterans, or AmVets, was initially done to remember POWs and MIAs.

AmVets, which is a congressionally chartered veterans service organization, says the rally is done to remember 82,000 MIAs going back to World War II. More recently, it’s been referred to as Rolling to Remember, and has branched out to include commemoration of the 20 to 22 veterans who commit suicide each day.

Last year, after the leaders bowed to the realities of COVID-19, then-President Donald Trump tweeted, “The Great Patriots of Rolling Thunder WILL be coming back to Washington, D.C. next year, & hopefully for many years to come. It is where they want to be, & where they should be.”

That was the plan.

But even as the virus wanes in the face of increased vaccinations and growing herd immunity, the Biden administration has thrown a spike strip in front of Rolling Thunder.

In a recent Facebook post, AmVets noted the Pentagon, which serves as the initial rally point for the ride because it offers the largest publicly owned parking lot in the D.C. area, had revoked the permit it had previously granted.

According to the ABC affiliate in Washington, the Defense Department sent AmVets an approved permit on March 11.

A week later, though the permit was canceled.

A Pentagon spokeswoman insisted the issue remains unresolved.

“There’s been no decision yet. The permit request is still being evaluated in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” the spokeswoman told the local media.

“We continue to monitor community spread of COVID 19 and remain at Health Protection Condition (HPCON) BRAVO PLUS on the Pentagon Reservation. Masks and social distancing are required and enforced on all DoD installations, including the Pentagon Reservation, in accordance with President Biden’s Executive Order for a Safer Federal Workplace and Secretary of Defense memorandum.”

The reporter, in a follow-up, apparently wanted to know why the Pentagon “is concerned about masks and social distancing of 10,000 military veterans on Memorial Day weekend,” when “its parking lot (is) open to the public every day and is jammed full of cars and people.”

No answer was forthcoming, it seems.

In an interview with the D.C. media, Joe Chennely, the executive director of AmVets, said, “We have to work with 10 different agencies to get this approved and to be able to safely and legally hold this demonstration. We now have 9 out of 10 who have given us approval. The Pentagon is the one that has not.”

“What we need from the Pentagon today is even an informal thumbs-up just letting us know that they are willing to work with us,” he added.

It wouldn’t surprise anyone if the revocation remained in place. After all, President Joe Biden continued to wear a mask everywhere, even though he’s been fully vaccinated, and Dr. Anthony Facui, another fully vaccinated person, has rejected the idea of large gatherings and indoor dining, even as 1 million or more people get vaccinated each day.
