Democrats Promote Birthing People

Biden Joins Democrats’ Promotion Of ‘Birthing People’

George Orwell once suggested the left’s war for political power was really a war on language.

The path to power, he argued, was in defining terms of debate, with the liberals’ use of obscure, abstract, stilted, or amorphous language that sounded important and high-minded but was ill-defined and shifted in meaning, even in mid-debate.

One good example is the Democrats’ war on women.

For the last few years, as liberals demanded “equity” for women, they’ve redefined what women are, and have sought to deprive biological women of their own sports, private locker rooms, and restrooms, and now, it seems, the one thing that defines womanhood more than almost anything: being a mom.

The Washington Times reported on Monday that President Joe Biden’s newly proposed $6 trillion budget includes the term “birthing people.”

“Progressive Democrats have increasingly substituted the phrase for ‘mother’ or ‘pregnant woman’ to avoid excluding transgender men — who are biological women and thus can carry a baby,” the Times noted. “But this appears to be the first time the phrase ‘birthing people’ has been used in a federal budget.”

The paper offered one example: “To help end this high rate of maternal mortality and race-based disparities in outcomes among birthing people – and in addition to the investment in maternal health included in the American Families Plan – the Budget includes more than $200 million.”

The Times pointed out that not all of Biden’s budget drafters got the memo.

In some instances, the budget does retain the word “mothers.”

But the fact that Biden used it at all “does mark a victory for leftist activists seeking to rework the English language,” the Times reported.

Left-wing Democratic Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri seems to have first brought the phrase to prominence during a hearing in early May. At the time other Democrats, who were women, picked up on it. They included Reps. Ayanna Pressley and Carolyn Maloney.

Even the National Abortion Rights Action Lague, which fights for the alleged right for pregnant women to not give birth if they don’t want to, has used “birthing people,” saying doing so is “inclusive.”

But Jessica Anderson, executive director of the conservative group Heritage Action, raised the relevant question that will never be asked by the media:

“Biden’s budget would literally erase the word ‘mother’ and replace it with the woke and watered-down term “birthing people” in relation to maternal health,” Anderson tweeted.

“Why does Biden want to cancel mothers?”
