Biden’s Green-Energy Push Takes Hit As Authors Highlight Study Showing Pollution Output By EVs

President Joe Biden’s crusade to allegedly save the planet involves forcing us all to drive electric vehicles — without telling us where he’d get the energy to power all of those 500,000 EV charging stations that have yet to be built.

Yet Biden’s Green New Deal-style push just took another hit.

It seems EVs cause much more environmental damage than their nasty fossil fuel-powered counterparts.

The New York Post reported earlier this week that a 2022 study by an emissions data firm called Emission Analytics found that “brakes and tires on EVs release 1,850 times more particle pollution compared to modern tailpipes, which have ‘efficient’ exhaust filters, bringing gas-powered vehicles’ emissions to new lows.”

As Emission Analytics explained, the components for EVs make them about 30% heavier than gas-powered cars. The battery in a Tesla Y model alone weighs more than 1,800 pounds, about half the weight of a typical car.

As a consequence, the study noted, heavier cars driving on light-duty tires that most often are made with synthetic rubber composed of crude oil and other fillers and additives actually deteriorate and release harmful materials into the air.

According to the study, tire wear emissions on a half-metric ton of battery weight in an EV deposit more than 400 times as much pollutants as direct exhaust particulate emissions from gas cars.

As the Post reported, “The study throws doubt on the practicality of the Biden administration’s EV mandates, which tout electric cars as “zero-emissions vehicles.’”

Nick Molden, founder and CEO of Emission Analytics, told the Post that EVs deliver about a 50% reduction in carbon dioxide, which affects climate change.

But the downside of EVs is the boost in particle pollution, which is more serious because that’s what we breathe, Molden said.

“A lot of it [EV chemicals] goes into the soil and water, affecting animals and fish. And we then go and eat the animals and fish, so we are ingesting tire pollution,” Molden told the Post. “Tires are made up of a lot of nasty chemicals.”

The study had flown under the public radar until this past Sunday when Michael Buschbacher and Taylor Myers, of the high-powered conservative law firm Boyden Gray in Washington, wrote about it for The Wall Street Journal.
