Body Located After Overnight Shooting In Sarasota

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation in connection with a shooting that happened on Thursday at around 10:47 p.m.

According to investigators, deputies responded to the 2400 block of 23rd Street late Thursday to investigate several shots fired, one of which struck a television inside an occupied residence; however, no injuries were reported.

The sheriff’s K-9 Unit, along with deputies, searched the area, but no suspects or victims were located. Witnesses described several subjects fleeing the area around the time the shots were heard.

A red four-door sedan was seen leaving the vicinity at approximately the same time. Area hospitals were checked for gunshot victims, but none were located.

At 8:11 a.m. Friday, deputies were alerted to a dead body found in the same area as last night’s shooting.

Investigators will remain on the scene as this is an ongoing investigation. There is no known threat to the community at this time.
