Brooksville Hernando County Recycling Center Destroyed In Early Morning Fire

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Hernando County Fire Rescue responded just before 6 am to a reported fire at the recycling center located at the Hernando County landfill at 14450 Landfill Rd, Brooksville.

An employee arriving for work alerted 911 of the fire.

Crews found heavy fire and partial structural collapse of the building.

The fire escalated to a second alarm for water tenders due to no fire hydrants at the facility. Crews worked for more than 2 hours to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported.

The landfill site at 14450 Landfill Road will be closed until Monday morning while crews continue to work hot spots and investigate the cause. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is on scene and will be handling the investigation.

Hernando County Utilities Department is actively working to determine future recycling processing plans at the facility. Further inquiries on facility operations can be directed to the Utilities Department.
