Brooksville Man’s Traffic Stop Led To Drug Arrest

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – A Brooksville man has been arrested after a traffic stop led deputies to Marijuana and Fentanyl.

According to Hernando County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday at 6:57 a.m., a Hernando County Sheriff’s deputy smelled the strong odor of marijuana emitting from a vehicle traveling on Powell Road in Brooksville.

The deputy also noted the tag on the vehicle had an expired registration sticker.

Upon conducting a traffic stop and then approaching the vehicle, the deputy once again smelled the strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from within the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 42-year-old Alton Johnson.

The deputy observed a green leafy substance on the floorboard of the vehicle and located a drawstring bag inside the vehicle containing three separate bags.

Deputies say these bags contained 128.1 grams of a green leafy substance. Two glass jars were also located in the vehicle that contained 221.6 grams of live resin, also known as cannabis concentrate. All of the items field-tested positive for marijuana.

Two additional containers were located on the front passenger seat. The contents of those containers tested positive for Fentanyl.

Johnson was arrested on Possession of Cannabis Concentrate and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center, where his bond was set at $6,000.
