TAMPA, Fla. – In 2 days Tom Brady turns 45. He’s not showing any signs of slowing down and has been the case for his past 22 NFL seasons, he’s all about his team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“It’s never about one person,” Brady said after the Bucs first full padded practice Monday. “This isn’t ever what this sport is about. It’s an ultimate team sport. I love players that are professionals, want to work hard, and players that put the team first.”
Brady is trying to build chemistry with a couple of new receivers in Russell Gage and Julio Jones. Brady says it takes time and it’s early in camp but what he’s seen out of both he likes.
“Those guys are coming out to work every day,” Brady said. “I think it’s just steady improvement getting better every day. If you make progress every day, you’ll get to a good place.”
Most feel that Brady is a tremendous recruiter and has been responsible for free agents wanting to come to Tampa Bay. Brady doesn’t think so.
“Guys choose this team cause of the team, not cause of me,” Brady said. “We have a great organization, great teammates and people are excited to come and join a great group of people”.
Brady said everyone on the Bucs was heartbroken to learn of center Ryan Jensen’s injury. Brady says right now Robert Hainsey is working to replace Jensen but adds Hainsey will have to earn it.
The Bucs are 24-9 with Brady at QB and 5-1 in the playoffs. Brady said it’s still a long way till opening day and they still don’t know exactly what they have and have to just keep taking it one day at a time.
