Friends and relatives of a five-year-old girl killed in a freeway shooting in California on Saturday have launched a fundraiser for the family.

5-year-old Eliyanah Crisostomo was hit by one of the many bullets fired at the car she and her parents were traveling in on their way to a birthday dinner at the Outback Steakhouse.

Police say the shooting happened on Interstate 880 near the Fremont-Milpitas border at 6.40 pm.

On Sunday, Santa Cruz Police said, “Last night, around 9:32 pm, Officer Caposio spotted a vehicle near Ocean St and Water St associated with possibly two shootings that occurred earlier in Fremont and Bay Area. One shooting involved the death of a child.”

Police took a total of three people into custody over the weekend with possible connections to the murdered child.

Friends and family launched a fundraiser in memory of 5-year-old Eliyanah.

“It’s time to be there for the parents of Eliyanah. Yesterday their family was traveling southbound on the 880 to the Outback restaurant in Milpitas for a family birthday dinner and were victims of gun violence. A bullet struck their 5-year-old daughter, and she passed away within 30 seconds of the incident. Investigators are doing their best to find out who did this,” said Jeff McGrew, the campaign organizer.

“Eliyanah was a fun-loving little girl who loved life, had a giving heart, close with her three siblings, especially her brother who were 11 months apart. Both were so excited for Easter before the family was torn to pieces by this tragic event. Eliyanah would have been 6 on the 21st of April,” said McGrew.
