Car Crashes Into Pasco Sheriff’s Inmate Transport Van In Hernando County, 15 People Injured

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL. – Fifteen people were injured on Tuesday after a car slammed into a Pasco Sheriff’s Office inmate transport van on I-75.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 26-year-old Ocala man, was traveling northbound in the center lane of I-75 near the 296 Milepost. The Pasco Sheriff’s Transport Van, was traveling northbound ahead of the car when the driver failed to slow and collided
with the rear of the van.

Troopers say after the impact, the car rotated to a stop in the inside travel lane while the transport van came to a controlled stop along the east shoulder.

Aboard the van, the two contracted inmate transport officers, as well as 10 inmates, who suffered minor injuries aboard the van, as did the Ocala man and his two adult and two minor passengers.
