“They’re junking up our country. And yeah, we feel some kind of way about it because it’s our country. We’re going to get them out of our communities because they don’t deserve to be there.”
Illinois’ Democratic Governor, JB Pritzker, has pledged around $182 million in state funds to support Chicago’s response to the migrant crisis. Additionally, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle has committed up to $70 million more in a joint funding plan.
However, some residents are questioning the allocation of funds and demanding that city council members donate their salaries to the cause.
The influx of migrants has strained relations between the city and its communities. Some Chicago residents feel that their concerns are being ignored and that the needs of migrants are being prioritized over those of American citizens.
