WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – An 80-year-old Dade City man has been arrested and charged in a Wesley Chapel hit and run that happened on December 6.

David Julian Weaver, 80, of Dade City, has been charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Serious Injury. 

Florida Highway Patrol troopers were searching for the driver and his pickup truck that crashed into a motorcycle and fled the crash scene in Wesley Chapel.

On December 6, 2022, a pickup truck was traveling northbound on Bruce B Downs Boulevard. 

Troopers say a 21-year-old Wesley Chapel man on a motorcycle was traveling southbound on Bruce B Downs Boulevard. 

At the intersection of Vanguard Street, the pickup truck turned left under a flashing yellow arrow into the motorcycle’s path and collided with the bike.

Troopers say the rider and the bike were propelled to a stop along the west shoulder of the roadway, and the pickup truck fled the scene.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the pickup truck, David Weaver, then stopped at a nearby gas station, where the vehicle and driver were captured on security cameras. 

The suspect vehicle was a late-model gray Chevrolet Colorado with front right bumper damage; the driver appears to be an elderly white male.
