Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas tore into the Biden administration during a Wednesday Fox News appearance, saying that the White House is “tying” up the Department of Homeland Security and is listening to “immigration activists” over law enforcement.

“This is not only about politics, it’s also about doing the right thing,” Cuellar told Fox News host Neil Cavuto. “And that is providing the right policies so communities, for example, in Mission, Texas, where that agent got killed … are protected.”

A Border Patrol agent was killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident early Wednesday morning while tracking a group of illegal immigrants. At least 11 Border Patrol agents have committed suicide in 2022, according to the Washington Examiner.

“I know the White House is tying Homeland Security – there’s a lot of career people there that know what job needs to be done,” Cuellar continued. “The White House is paying attention only to the immigration activists. Who is paying attention to the men and women in green and blue and who is paying attention to our communities on the border?”

United States Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) encountered over 2.3 million migrants in Fiscal Year 2022, with another 230,000 in October, the first month of the new fiscal year, according to official figures. Nearly 600,000 more migrants evaded CBP in fiscal year 2022, Fox News reported.

“When Title 42 goes away, I’m telling you, you’ll see large numbers of people coming in,” Cuellar said. “My city, the mayor in Laredo, is asking for monies because his plan is to do what he did before. That is get the migrants that will be released in Laredo, put them in a bus, and send them somewhere else.”

A federal judge ruled in November that Title 42, a Trump-era expulsion policy, would end effective Dec. 21. Cuellar has opposed the Biden administration’s effort to end the policy, emphasizing the stress the policy’s end would place on border communities.
