President Joe Biden has bet a significant portion of his re-election campaign on abortion.

On X, Biden has offered several posts recently suggesting that women voters would fight back against the Supreme Court overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision — which came after Vice President Kamala Harris visited an abortion clinic to praise it for providing “health care.”

“[Former President Donald] Trump and his allies make no apologies for overturning Roe v. Wade. In fact, they brag about it,” Biden posted on Tuesday. “They have no clue about the power of women—but they’re about to find out.”

Yet what Americans found out, thanks to a new report this week by the left-wing, pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, is that the Supreme Court’s decision had little effect on abortion.

In fact, it may have made things worse for pro-life advocates.

Breitbart News, reporting on the Guttmacher study, noted that 2023 recorded the most abortions in the U.S. in more than a decade.

That analysis revealed that an estimated 1.03 million unborn babies died as a result of an abortion last year.

That translated to 15.7 abortions per 1,000 women of reproductive age. That figure was up 10% from 2020.

“The last time there were over a million abortions provided in the formal health care system in the United States was in 2012,” Guttmacher said in its study.

The reason for the increase, according to Guttmacher, was that pro-abortion blue states ramped up efforts to accommodate women in red states that sought to protect unborn life.

“The drastic loss of access in states with bans has been counterbalanced by monumental efforts on the part of clinics, abortion funds and logistical support organizations to help people in ban states access care through financial and practical support,” the group noted. “States bordering ban states had particularly large increases.”

“The study found that every state that had not outlawed abortion saw an increase over 2020 totals in the number of abortions performed,” Breitbart reported.

The Guttmacher study itself noted, “The 10 percent increase at the national level in many ways understates the degree to which health systems, providers, and support networks have had to scale up care in certain states: States without total bans experienced a 25 percent increase in abortions in 2023 compared with 2020.”

“The sharpest increases were seen in states bordering ban states, where abortions increased by 37 percent from 2020 to 2023.”

The states with the largest gains were New Mexico, Illinois, and Virginia.

Sadly, Guttmacher offered that it had surely undercounted the real number of abortions in 2023 because that only included facilities that are considered part of the “formal U.S. health care system.”
