Detectives Investigate Pinellas County Inmate Death

Detectives assigned to the Robbery-Homicide Unit are investigating the death of 58-year-old inmate Clifford Clark.

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Detectives assigned to the Robbery-Homicide Unit are investigating the death of 58-year-old inmate Clifford Clark.

Detectives say Clark was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on July 29, 2022, after being arrested on three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

According to detectives, on July 31, 2022, at approximately 8:40 a.m., Clark was found unresponsive in his cell by deputies who were conducting a well-being check. Deputies and medical staff performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Clark until paramedics arrived to continue life-saving measures. Detectives say Clark was pronounced deceased at 9:29 a.m.

During the course of the investigation, detectives found no evidence to believe Clark had been in any physical altercations or suffered any injuries while incarcerated.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will work to determine the cause and manner of death.
