SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. – Hillsborough County Fire Rescue battled a residential structure fire on Desert Hills Way in Sun City Center on Tuesday evening.

Officials say at 5:54 P.M., the Emergency Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls from citizens reporting fire through the roof of a nearby residence.

Arriving crews could see a column of smoke from a distance and deemed the event a working fire, and the first arriving engine confirmed heavy flames through the residence’s roof.

Crews initially attacked the fire from outside but soon moved into the house to battle the blaze from the interior.

The first fire hydrant they attempted to use failed, so they quickly shifted to another in the area.

Firefighters had the fire under control in under 30 minutes.

They conducted searches of the house, and no occupants were inside. There were no injuries to civilians or first responders. The fire investigations unit is currently on the scene to determine the cause.
